ASHRAE Journal publishes practical, application-oriented papers about HVAC&R technology that range from back-to-basics features to reviews of emerging technologies.

High Performing Buildings describes measured performance of practices  and technologies to promote better buildings, presenting case studies and technical features that explore integrated building design practices and improved operations and maintenance techniques and more.


HVAC&R experts write ASHRAE Journal articles, which undergo a double-blind peer review to ensure they meet ASHRAE Journal’s standards for technical accuracy, credibility and practicality. Papers should be about 3,000 words long with no more than eight graphics. We do not accept published white papers. Please make sure all submitted papers include the following.

☐ Citations are mandatory and need to be cited in the text

☐ Variables in equations must be defined

☐ One-line bio for each author

Abstracts are required. Please submit your paper in Word .doc or PDF format with all graphics, charts and photos embedded in the document itself (as opposed to separate files).

Papers should be about 1,700 words long with at least 15 photos (horizontal and vertical). Charts showing energy consumption, and diagrams/drawings of sustainable features are encouraged (formats: Excel, Illustrator, .tif or .jpg).
